To create something, Lo always does a lot of research and find a lot of reference images. By using these references he designed layout and pose of this statue.
After the basic concept was made, Lo started sculpting with a lot of human anatomy references. He used awesome applications called 'Zbrush' for sculpting and 'Blander' for layout/render. After sculpting had been done he sent the model to Blender to see how it looks like in the real light situation.
After sculpting/rendering was finished, he sent this model to the manufacturer for prototyping. So he got the prototype statue you saw below.
